As the country struggles under the hardship of the COVID-19 lock down, some indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have protested the alleged takeover disputed land, and the destruction of their farms by the Nigerian Army. The angry indigenes warned that the action of the Army could degenerate into a security crisis if urgent intervention was not made to resolve the dispute by the FCT administration. In a statement signed by Ezekiel Dalhatu of the Coalition of Abuja Indigenous Association, the residents accused the Army of resuming massive work on the disputed land in Tungan Maje during which farmlands belonging to residents were cleared.
“This needs an urgent intervention from the FCT Administration before it snowball to a major security crisis even during this COVID19 situation. And let it be on record that the FCT natives will not fold their hands and watch them destroy our properties and houses unabated with no government genuine intervention. The FCT natives have resolved to come out in our thousands tomorrow morning to site and submit ourselves for the long awaited Nigerian Military genocide should there be no any genuine intervention from the FCT Administration or the Federal Government of Nigeria,” the group warned.
