. . . Use Of Stoves Will Reduce Fuel Wood Negative Effects – Minister

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), has donated 3,000 ‘save 80 efficient cook stoves’ to widows, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other indigent women across the country.
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the agency, Prof. Mohammad Haruna, made the disclosure at the unveiling of the stoves recently in Kaduna.
According to the agency, the stove was designed and manufactured by Atmosfair; Germany in collaboration with the NASENI.
Prof. Haruna further explained that the gesture would be extended to the benefitting women in the six geopolitical zones of the country under the agency’s corporate social responsibility.
“The gesture would also improve the agency’s eco-friendliness and carbon footprint, a positive contribution to climate change and service to humanity. Some of these stoves will be handed over to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for distribution to IDPs and flood victims,” Haruna said.
He however, said that the use of the energy-efficient cooking stoves provides high potential for emission reduction.
“The product of these stoves is also a viable, self-sustaining and revenue generating venture which will create thousands of employments. We are duplicating manufacturing facility for both the stove and the briquettes from agric wastes.
“The products will be manufactured simultaneously at Kano and Agada village of Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State,” he added.
Also, the Minister of Environment, Mr. Mohammed Hassan, said that the use of the stoves would reduce the usage of fuel wood and curb the attendant negative effects.
On her part, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disasters. and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, promised to collaborate with the agency to promote the stoves.
The minister, represented by Dr Abubakar Sulaiman, said that the stoves would address some climate change issues like carbon emissions.
While speaking, the Governor of Katsina state, Aminu Masari who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Usman Nadada promised to patronise the stove.
Representative of Atmosfair; Germany, Dr Dietrich Brockhagen, said the stove saves 80 percent fuel wood, saves money just as they are appreciated by women, among other benefits.
