Elder Leke Abejide, the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, has been conferred with a double chieftaincy title as Asiwaju of Yagba land, by all the First Class traditional rulers in Yagba – East, Yagba-West, and Mopa-muro LGAs, all in Yagba Federal Constituency jointly.
In a similar development, he has also received the title of Maiyegun of Egbe as confered on him by the Oba of Egbe.
According to a press release issued on Monday, the formal confirment and coronation ceremonies of the Chieftaincy titles will be held on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th of October 2022 in Isanlu and Egbe, respectively.
The chieftaincy honors come just a few days after he was bestowed with the title of Asiwaju of Yoruba in Kano by the Oba of Yoruba in Kano State.
The event was held in a large ceremony attended by Kano’s Executive Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and other top government functionaries from across Nigeria.
Leke Abejide, who is currently the Asiwaju of Alu in Kogi’s Yagba East Local Government, has received several titles, honors and awards for his outstanding service to his people and the nation at large.
Elder Leke who is a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a staunch supporter of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a 2023 Presidential candidate, is seeking re-election to a second term in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
He is the convener and National Cordinator of the Asiwaju Confluence Campaign Organization ACCO2023, a grass-roots political campaign structure for the Tinubu Presidential Project 2023 in Nigeria.
In response to the confirmation of numerous chieftaincy on Leke, Chief David Dare the Maiyegun of Isanlu, a close political associate of Elder Abejide, said: “The legislator has demonstrated capacity and positively touched the lives of his people in various spheres of livelihood and as such deserve all the recognition from his kingsmen and across the country.
“As a legislator, he has fulfilled his mandate on the House floor, as well as imparted on his constituents by creating conducive living standards in the provision of Basic Social Amenities to the people of Yagba Federal Constituency, which are too numerous to mention.”
Chief Maiyegun used the medium to congratulate Elder Leke and thank all the Obas in Yagba land for recognizing the lawmaker as deserving of the titles, as well as to assure the people that he will continue to contribute to the advancement of the Yagba Federal Constituency in the coming days.
Abejide has become a household name in Kogi State and throughout Nigeria.
When he was crowned Asiwaju of Alu few years ago, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello and his counterpart from Jigawa State His Excellency Alhaji Badaru Abubakar graced the occasion in Alu, the home town of Chief Leke Abejide. Governor Bello was also conferred with a chieftaincy title by the Alu kingdom in that event.
Before becoming a member of the National Assembly, he was in charge of paying WAEC fees for his constituents on his personal capacity in both public and private schools, including all administrative charges.
