The Kano State Police Command has made a breakthrough in the investigation of the abduction and culpable homicide of Bello Bukar Adam, a 45-year-old staff member of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO). The incident, which occurred on May 4th, had left the community in shock and fear.
According to a press release issued by the Kano State Police Command on Thursday, “the victim, Bello Bukar Adam, aged 45, had left his home in Zawaciki Housing Estate, Kano, with his Toyota Corolla motor vehicle, only to disappear without a trace.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated that on the evening of the same day, “a male adult’s lifeless body was discovered abandoned on the outskirts of the Eastern Bypass, near Bechi Village in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.”
Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, mobilized a team of detectives led by Aliyu Mohammed Auwal, the officer in charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, to apprehend the perpetrator(s) within 24 hours.
Their efforts paid off when they arrested Sadiq Zubairu, aged 35, of Hotoron Arewa Quarters, Nassarawa Local Government Area, on May 6th at 9:00 am.
In a startling confession, the suspect admitted to conspiring with two others to lure the victim to his house under the pretense of securing a job offer.
“Upon realizing he couldn’t fulfill his promise, the suspect resorted to violence, leading to the tragic death of Bello Bukar Adam,” Kiyawa said.
Quoting the suspect, Kiyawa stated, “He tied him up, hit him with sticks and sharp iron on his head and other parts of his body until he became motionless.”
The suspect further confessed to disposing of the victim’s body along the Eastern Bypass and stealing his motor vehicle and mobile phone.
“The motive behind the crime was revealed to be financial as the suspect had deceitfully obtained three million naira from the victim,” Kiyawa added.
While expressing condolences to the deceased’s family, the Commissioner reiterated the Kano State Police Command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through various emergency contact numbers and online platforms provided by the Kano State Police Command.
