Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has presented an ambitious budget proposal of over N298.14 billion to the state’s House of Assembly for the 2024 appropriation bill.
Under the theme “Budget for a Greater Jigawa,” the comprehensive plan aims to achieve transformative growth by introducing significant initiatives, including the establishment of an anti-corruption agency and a board for Tsangaya (Almajiri schools).
Compared to the previous fiscal year, the proposed budget represents a substantial increase of 23 percent. Governor Namadi highlighted that N10.72 billion has been allocated as a stabilisation and contingency fund, accounting for approximately 4 percent of the projected real recurrent revenue.
Of the total budget, over N111 billion, which accounts for approximately 37 percent, has been allocated for recurrent expenditure.
The remaining balance of approximately N175.44 billion, representing 59 percent, is dedicated to capital investments.
Notably, the allocation of N131.8 billion demonstrates a significant focus on human capital development, highlighting its crucial importance.
Governor Namadi emphasized his commitment to implement the budget with the utmost fiscal discipline, transparency, and accountability.
He assured members of the state’s House of Assembly and the citizens of Jigawa State that the proposed initiatives would be executed effectively to drive positive change and development in the region.
Furthermore, the 2024 appropriation plan includes the creation of several agencies, with Governor Namadi aiming to establish them before the end of the first quarter of 2024.
The newly introduced agencies encompass the State ICT and Digital Economy Agency, the State’s Hisbah Board, the State’s Tsangaya Board (Almajiri schools), State Resident Identity Management Agency, and the State Anti-Corruption Agency.
