The threat posed by the onslaught of the dreaded Corona Virus has led to the postponement of the presentation of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka’s latest book. Another high profile arts event affected is the 2020 World Poetry Day with the theme Voices in the Cause of Earth. In a press statement made available to The Explainer, Bookcraft, the publisher of Soyinka’s latest work titled Beyond Aesthetics informed that the launch earlier scheduled for March 26, has been postponed indefinitely.
“In view of the recent statement by the Lagos State advising against large gatherings, Bookcraft Publishers jointly with Professor Wole Soyinka have taken the painful decision to postpone the event indefinitely.” In a similar vein, Providus Bank, which is organising the World Poetry Day event said due to the COVID 19 pandemic and the Lagos State Government directive banning all gatherings above 50 persons, the event had to be postponed. The bank apologized for all inconveniences to invitees, just as it urged everyone to follow all safety and health protocol to stop the spread of the virus.
