The national leadership of the Labour Party (LP), has decried the spate of killings of its party’s supporters in Kaduna state, especially in its strong hold of Southern Kaduna.
While condemning the attacks during a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, the party accused the opposition parties in the state of being behind the attacks and killings of its members.
National Secretary of the party, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, said that the intimidation of Labour Party members, especially in the constituency of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Jonathan Asake, is becoming a source of concern to the party leadership. Ibrahim called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to bring an end to what he described as heinous act, adding that government must rise to the occasion.
“Our great party has noticed with dismay in recent time, the spate of killings of our party supporters in Kaduna state. The killings are happening in Southern Kaduna which is one of our strong holds and the constituency of our gubernatorial candidate Hon Jonathan Asake.
“Just last week, our great party lost eight members in Kaura and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas respectively. These series of killings within short time are highly condemnable and insensitive, especially in this festive period.
“Our great party strongly condemned these killings and we cannot continue folding our arms seeing our members killed on daily basis. As such, we call on the Kaduna State Government to do all it take to bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to book.”
The party recalled with dismay the killing of the women leader of Labour Party in the State. Mrs Victoria Chintex, which it described as a tragedy that remains fresh in the minds of Labour Party faithful. He said the party will not give up its quest for justice until the perpetrators of dastardly act are held to account.
