Ahead of the off-cycle Governorship elections scheduled for Saturday, the 11th of November 2023, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed dedicated staff monitors across the nine Senatorial districts of Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states. The monitors have assumed their positions at various duty posts, prepared to oversee and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
In an effort to facilitate effective communication and swift response to incidents, the PSC has released dedicated telephone lines for Nigerians to report any instances of police misconduct or commend exemplary conduct. The commission’s staff monitors can be identified by their reflective jackets adorned with PSC inscriptions.
Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and retired Inspector General of Police, has urged the staff monitors to carry out their responsibilities with utmost diligence and commitment. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the approved guidelines for monitoring police conduct and following the rules of engagement.
Dr. Arase made it clear that the commission would hold the staff monitors accountable for any deliberate infractions committed during the course of their duty. He emphasized the need for professionalism and integrity while carrying out their monitoring tasks.
