The Kano State Police Command has issued a warning against any form of protest following the recent Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold the sacking of Governor Abba Yusuf.
In a press statement, SP Abdullah Kiyawa, the command’s spokesman, stated that security operatives have received credible information about certain groups planning to protest the court’s verdict.
The intent of these groups, according to the information received by the police command, is to organize demonstrations that could potentially disrupt the state and lead to violence.
As a result, the police command cautioned residents to exercise caution, emphasizing the need for protests or processions to be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Ahead of the court’s judgment, the New Nigeria Peoples Party and the All Progressives Congress were invited by the state police command to sign a peace accord on November 16, 2023.

The purpose of the accord was to ensure peace and harmony within the political landscape of the state, regardless of the court’s decision.
In the peace accord, both political parties pledged to prevent politically motivated gatherings and actions that could incite violence.
They also committed to refrain from making inflammatory statements that could escalate tension or undermine the security arrangements and integrity of the judiciary.
Furthermore, the parties vowed to monitor and comply with the details outlined in the peace accord, and to support the security measures put in place to maintain peace and order.
Any individuals or groups found disrupting the peace before, during, and after the court’s judgment would face legal consequences, as stipulated by the law.
In light of these developments, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gumel, urged all residents of Kano State to remain calm and avoid engaging in unlawful gatherings, protests, or processions that could potentially result in violence.
Joint security forces have been deployed to strategic locations across the state to ensure the preservation of peace and order.
The Commissioner reemphasized that anyone attempting to disturb the peace would be apprehended and face the full force of the law.
He expressed appreciation for the cooperation, support, and understanding of the people of Kano State and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
