Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has expressed deep concern regarding threats to his safety since the commencement of the impeachment process against Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Addressing the press in Akure on Monday, Oladiji disclosed the distressing discovery of a fetish sacrifice placed at the official Speaker’s Lodge.
He emphasized that he rarely uses the lodge and has only utilized it for parliamentary meetings due to its present state. “Early this morning, we discovered a ritualistic offering placed in the lodge.
Additionally, I have been receiving threatening calls from unknown individuals targeting my life and the lives of other members. The pressure has been immense,” he stated.
Oladiji stressed the urgency for security agencies to investigate these threats and safeguard both himself and fellow members, adding, “This threat emerged when we initiated the impeachment notice. I have reported this to NSCDC and other security agencies.”
He further disclosed that the House will serve Aiyedatiwa a letter detailing the alleged gross misconduct against him, having obtained a court affidavit confirming the House’s legitimate authority to do so. All 26 House members have endorsed the petition.
Debunking rumors of lawmakers receiving financial inducements to pursue the impeachment, Oladiji firmly stated, “We did not accept any gratification.
We are diligently performing our duties as lawmakers, upholding our responsibilities of appropriation and oversight. Today, we will serve him with the letter, which has been signed by all 26 lawmakers.”
