IKE Foundation for Autism has urged the federal government to establish special intervention funds for the autism community to address the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Mr. Francis Mohie, the Executive Director of the foundation, stated that these funds could be utilized for various purposes, including funding for early screening and diagnosis to ensure timely access to intervention services.
Key points highlighted by Mr. Mohie include:
 Support for early intervention therapies like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral interventions.
Allocation of resources for specialized education programs designed for autistic students.
 Training for educators to implement evidence-based practices supporting autistic learners.
 Provision of funding for medical and mental health services specific to autism, including diagnostic assessments, counseling, and psychiatric care.
Assistance for acquiring adaptive equipment and assistive technologies.
Furthermore, in terms of policy implementation within the autism community, Mr. Mohie stressed the significance of ensuring access to education, healthcare, and support services
. He also urged the government to enforce anti-discrimination laws safeguarding the rights of autistic individuals across various spheres, including employment and education.
