The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has debunked viral social media claims alleging that the FBI uncovered $6 billion and pre-filled 2027 election results at the London residence of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The CDD War Room in its fact-check report stated, “Our investigation reveals several discrepancies that prove this claim to be false.”
The CDD’s analysis found that images circulating with the story actually originated from a 2023 U.S. Department of Justice raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
“These images were released following the discovery of classified documents at Trump’s residence, not Wike’s,” the report clarified.
The fact-checkers also pointed out jurisdictional issues with the claim.
“The FBI’s authority is limited to U.S. territory. International operations require host country invitation and cooperation,” explained the CDD.

No corroborating reports were found on official European law enforcement channels or credible news outlets, further undermining the story’s authenticity.
The CDD traced the origin of the false claim to a parody Facebook account impersonating a legitimate news channel.
“The actual Arise News and other reputable media outlets have not reported any such operation targeting a Nigerian politician,” the report said.
