Following the death of musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, claims have surfaced on social media suggesting that Naira Marley and Sam Larry were arrested by the Nigerian police for questioning in connection with the singer’s mysterious demise.
However, fact-checks by The Explainer show no evidence to support these claims. A social media post circulated, accompanied by a picture showing Naira Marley and Sammy Larry in a relaxed mood, suggesting that they had been arrested in connection with Mohbad’s death.
After detailed checks, we found no credible evidence to substantiate the claim. Multiple media reports, including statements from the Lagos Annex, Force Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2, Alagbon, discredited the claim and confirmed that neither Naira Marley nor Sammy Larry had been arrested with regards to Mohbad’s demise. Police spokesperson Oluniyi Ogundeyi explicitly denied the arrest of Naira Marley and Sam Larry.
The Explainer Fact Checkers also visited the official X handle of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and found a statement regarding Mohbad’s death. The NPF acknowledged the concerns surrounding his untimely demise and assured the public that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police was assigned to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.
The NPF also cautioned against making statements or engaging in activities that could hinder the ongoing investigation. Although the Police recently updated the public that it had set up an investigative team to probe the death of the hugely talented artiste, now arrests have however been made at the time of producing this fact check.
