The Nigerian Senate has begun the screening process for seven new ministerial nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu last Wednesday. The upper legislative chamber suspended its rules to admit the nominees for the evaluation exercise.
The screening commenced on Wednesday after being postponed a day earlier. The Senate started with Nentawe Yilwatda, who was nominated to replace Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Other nominees scheduled for the screening include:
Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, nominated as the Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, nominated as the Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole, nominated as the Minister of Industry, Idi Maiha, nominated as the Minister for the newly created Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata, nominated as the Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Suwaiba Ahmad, nominated as the Minister of State Education
Last Wednesday, President Tinubu announced a major cabinet shake-up, sacking five ministers, reassigning 10 ministers to new portfolios, and appointing seven new faces for the Senate’s confirmation.
