Following the numerous challenges facing the northern part of the country, the 19 Northern Governors’ Forum and traditional rulers converged on Kaduna on Monday to find solutions to the identified problems. In an urgent talk at the meeting, the forum identified the ongoing blackout in the region as one of the problems that demands urgent attention.
Other pressing issues raised at the meeting included security concerns, economic issues, and sustainable development priorities.
According to a statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli, media aide to the Chairman of the forum, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State is focusing on charting a unified agenda to enhance regional cooperation and development. Under his leadership as Chairman of the forum, Governor Yahaya aims to leverage the North’s resources to promote long-term development.
The Governor has been engaging with stakeholders across multiple sectors to implement actionable strategies for addressing security concerns. These concerns have been disrupting agricultural productivity and driving up food prices in the region.
Notably, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, also attended the meeting and briefed the governors on efforts by the military to tackle banditry ¹.
