The Enugu State Police Command has issued an advisory to residents, urging them to disregard the recently circulated Monday and Tuesday sit-at-home order.
This directive comes from the Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, in response to a viral video from an unidentified individual calling for a two-day shutdown in the state.
In a statement released by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday, the police emphasized their commitment to maintaining peace and security in Enugu State.
The commissioner’s message was clear and unequivocal, describing the sit-at-home order as “baseless, unwarranted and a deliberate attempt to incite fear and unrest in the state.”
Commissioner Uzuegbu stated emphatically, “Enugu State has long moved past such criminally motivated, illegal sit-at-home calls or orders.”
He further explained that these illegal directives are typically designed to “destabilise social, economic and psychological well-being of the people under the guise of secessionist agitations.”
The police chief’s stance was resolute, warning that any attempts to disturb the peace and security of the state would be met with “decisive and ruthless action.” .
He stated, “I encourage citizens to carry on with their lawful activities without fear or intimidation. The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are fully prepared to maintain the peace and security across the state.”
The commissioner also addressed parents and guardians directly, urging them to warn their children and wards against being used for any activities that could be detrimental to the state’s peace and security.
He cautioned, “The legal consequences of such involvements will be dire,” highlighting the potential risks for young people who might be tempted to participate in any unlawful activities.
In a call for community cooperation, the police chief enjoined the people of Enugu State to remain vigilant and law-abiding. He emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station, fostering a collaborative approach to maintaining public safety.
