The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has declared that licenses of disobedient drivers will be cancelled going ahead.
While briefing reporters on the outcomes of the 2024 Eid-el Kabir Special Patrol Operations, which took place from Friday, June 14, to Sunday, June 23, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed made the news on Friday in Abuja.
He said the Corps was becoming more and more conscious of the value of stakeholder collaboration and collective involvement.
Mohammed said that in order to help reach the mileage logged during the period under review, the Corps employed this as a crucial variable tool.
He claims that the ongoing interagency joint task force to lessen trailer driver excesses is one of these activities’ most crucial components.
He said, “Enforcing compliance on the indiscriminate use of trailers to convey human beings.
“This also includes aggressive public enlightenment, robust media engagement, and aggressive advocacy campaigns carried out in motor parks across the Federation.
“Finally, there was also the identification and mapping of strategic routes across the country and the effective deployment of appropriate personnel and logistics to cover them.”
The head of the FRSC said that the Corps maintained good ties with the leaders of the various security services and transport unions.
According to Mohammed, this covers the FCT Department of Road Traffic Services as well as state traffic management organizations.
He said, “All these were done to ensure that every stakeholder, both in the public and private sectors, plays a cardinal role in entrenching safety on the highways.
“On the strength of the foregoing, may I bring to your attention that we have added to the conventional enforcement of traffic regulations on articulated vehicles?
“We have gone a step further by commencing prosecution of recalcitrant drivers through Mobile Court operations in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT.
“Subsequently, more drastic measures, including suspension and withdrawal of the national driver’s license, will be carried out.”
Before the special patrol for Sallah in 2024 began, the FRSC Corps Marshal talked about how far they wanted to go in lowering the number of traffic accidents.
These comprise traffic infractions, fatalities, and injuries that occur on the country’s highways.
