Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has conducted a strategic cabinet reshuffle, appointing Kasimu Sani Kaura as a new commissioner and reassigning several key government officials.
During the state’s Executive Council meeting on Monday, Governor Lawal officially swore in Kaura, explaining the appointment’s significance.
“His selection to represent Kaura Namoda Local Government Area in the cabinet is informed by his competent service to his community and the state,” the governor stated.
The reshuffling follows the resignation of Mannir Muazu Haidara, who left his commissioner position to contest and win the chairmanship of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
Governor Lawal’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, confirmed the minor cabinet adjustments in a statement.
Addressing the newly sworn-in commissioner, Governor Lawal emphasized the administration’s commitment to leveraging local talent.
“I urge the new Commissioner to rededicate himself to serving the people,” he said.
“As a central member of the rescue mission, I do not doubt that he will give his best for the benefit of all,” he added.
The cabinet changes include several key reassignments.
Kasimu Sani Kaura will now head the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, replacing Mahmud Mohammed Abdullahi, who moves to the Ministry of Information and Culture. Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi takes over as Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, while Kabiru Moyi shifts to Project Monitoring and Implementation.

Furthermore, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad has been transferred to the Ministry of Health, with Dr. Aisha M Za Anka now leading the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
“To enhance efficiency and effectiveness in fulfilling our mandate, I believe making some minor adjustments within the Cabinet is necessary,” Governor Lawal explained.
The governor emphasized his commitment to performance monitoring, promising to “periodically monitor and evaluate the performance of all appointees as we approach our mid-term in office.”
“In service delivery, I will continue to demand all senior appointees to put in their best and monitor every one of you so that we have square pegs in square holes,” he said.
All commissioners have been instructed to complete handover protocols within seven days.
