The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the bail ruling for former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and two of his associates until December 10, in a high-profile case involving alleged financial misconduct.
The Explainer reported, Bello, along with Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, are facing a 16-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which centers on an alleged N110 billion fraud.
During the court proceedings, Bello, who is the first defendant, categorically denied the allegations before Justice Maryanne Anenih when the charges were read out.
The defendants’ legal team, led by counsel Joseph Daudu, promptly moved an application for bail.
The EFCC’s counsel, Kemi Pinheiro, initially opposed the bail application, arguing that it had expired in October.
However, the defense counsel clarified that the only relevant application before the court was a bail motion for the first defendant, filed on November 22, and supported by a written address.
Justice Anenih ultimately ordered that the defendants be remanded in the custody of the EFCC pending the bail ruling.
