Ahmed Ololade, the Nigerian artiste better known as Asake, has revealed that he draws inspiration from Grammy-winning singer Wizkid. T
he two singers recently collaborated on “MMS”, the opening track of Asake’s newly released third studio album, “Lungu Boy”.
In a note accompanying the song, Asake expressed his long-standing admiration for Wizkid and his eagerness to work with him. “It’s no secret that Wizkid is one of my musical inspirations.
As a young, striving artist in Lagos, I had been waiting for the right song, and when the opportunity came, it was a no-brainer,” he wrote.
Asake also explained that “MMS” stands for “Mr. Money Sound”, which encapsulates his music journey. He first gained widespread recognition in 2020 with his breakout hit “Lady”.
In February 2022, he joined YBNL, the record label founded by Olamide, and has since released two successful studio albums: “Mr. Money With The Vibes” (2022) and “Work of Art” (2023).
His talent has earned him numerous awards and nominations, including a nod in the “Best African Music Performance” category at the 2024 Grammys for “Amapiano”, his hit collaboration with Olamide.
Wizkid, who burst onto the scene with his 2010 hit “Holla at Your Boy”, is one of Africa’s most celebrated artistes.
His contributions to the music industry, including a Grammy Award for his work on Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl”, have solidified his status as one of the most decorated African musicians of all time.
