Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike conducted an inspection on Wednesday of several road projects set to be completed by May 2024.
Among the projects inspected were the expansion of the Southern Expressway from Villa Roundabout to OSEX/Ring Road I (RRI) Junction, which includes the construction of four interchange points. Additionally, the full development of arterial road N20 from the Northern Parkway to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), including spurs handled by Gilmore and the access road to Body of Benchers in the Institution and Research District, was also examined.
The purpose of the inspection was to ensure that the road projects meet the required standards. Minister Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the ongoing projects and assured that appropriate funding arrangements have been made to ensure timely completion.
According to Wike, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed him to secure adequate funding for these projects. Furthermore, funds from the Federal Capital Territory’s 2023 supplementary budget will be allocated to support their completion. Wike stated that numerous road projects across the Federal Capital Territory are expected to reach completion and be commissioned by May of next year, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the President’s term.
The minister emphasized the availability of funding, with the President emphasizing that excuses will not be accepted. He affirmed that the supplementary budget has been approved, and additional funding is anticipated to be allocated promptly, addressing the issue of past concerns regarding insufficient funds.
Regarding the quality of the road projects, Wike commended the contractors for their exceptional work and urged them to maintain the high standards. The contractors have provided assurances that they will complete the projects as planned.

Wike also highlighted the positive impact that the completion of these road projects will have on the local economy, stating that they will renew hope among the people and enhance their trust in the government.
He emphasized the importance of tangible actions rather than theoretical promises and stated that the government aims to restore the public’s confidence through the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking to the gathered residents, Minister Wike assured them that President Tinubu is committed to restoring hope in the Federal Capital Territory by ensuring the timely completion of these road projects. He stated that by May 2024, within the next six to seven months, the roads will be fully completed.
Furthermore, Wike reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to refrain from initiating any projects without the availability of necessary funding resources.
