Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has vowed never to support Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers, again.
Wike made this statement during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.
“I will never support Fubara again in my political life. I won’t do that. Everyone knows me,” he said.
Wike claimed that he had labored and sacrificed to ensure Fubara’s victory as Rivers Governor in 2023, stating that Fubara could not have won the election without his support.
The FCT Minister accused Fubara of spreading lies against him after his election as Governor. “I will never support Fubara again in my political life. I won’t do that. Everyone knows me,” Wike repeated.
“That’s why people should know me. I’m not a man who does things with my left hand. Everybody knows that. People labored to put up a structure.
You wouldn’t have even taken the fifth position. People labored and sacrificed. I sacrificed to talk to the Ogoni people.
I sacrificed to talk to several people. Let’s go this way (support Fubara). You turned it into ‘I’m asking for N20 billion and N100 billion.’ You told lies against me. I brought you up, put you here and there.”
The political crisis in Rivers State, caused by the rift between Fubara and Wike, has resulted in a polarized State House Assembly, with two factions: one led by Martin Amaewhule (27 members) loyal to Wike, and the other led by Victor Jumbo loyal to Fubara.
The two factions are currently in court to determine the authentic House of Assembly. Fubara recognizes the Jumbo-led faction, and the state government interacts with this group, which has three lawmakers, for legislative approvals.
