The University of Ibadan (UI) has released its admission cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 academic session, with the College of Medicine programs maintaining the highest requirements among all faculties.
The announcement comes following a national policy meeting where Nigerian universities agreed on a minimum UTME score of 140 points for all institutions.
According to the official document signed by UI’s registrar, Ganiu Saliu, the university has set varying cut-off points for different programs, considering merit, catchment areas, and Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS).
“The admission cut-off point is determined by calculating the candidates’ UTME score, post-UTME score, and their senior secondary school examination results,” said the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in its explanatory note.
For the prestigious Medicine and Surgery program, candidates must score at least 78.125 points for merit and catchment consideration, while ELDS candidates need 76.25 points. Nursing Science follows with 71.875 points for merit and catchment areas, and 63.375 for ELDS candidates.
The Faculty of Law maintains competitive requirements, with merit and catchment candidates needing 67.25 points, while ELDS candidates require 66.75 points.
“Candidates seeking admission into the College of Medicine need at least 60 points to be considered for admission on merit,” stated the university administration, highlighting the competitive nature of medical programs.
Other notable cut-offs include:
Pharmacy: 68 points for merit/catchment, 65.625 for ELDS, Medical Laboratory Science: 65 points for merit/catchment, 58.75 for ELDS, Dentistry: 69.125 points for merit/catchment, 63.625 for ELDS

The Faculty of Science, Social Sciences, and Education programs generally maintain a minimum cut-off point of 50, making them more accessible to a broader range of candidates.
For Arts programs, Communication and Language Arts leads with 61.875 points for merit and catchment areas, while English requires 57.125 points. Most other programs in the Arts Faculty maintain the base requirement of 50 points across all categories.
In the Economics and Management Sciences, Accounting shows the highest requirements with 65.25 points for merit and catchment areas, followed by Economics at 58.5 points.
