PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU was missing in the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja.
Every year on January 15, Nigeria observes its Armed Forces Remembrance Day to recognise the living veterans and remember the nation’s fallen comrades.
From time immemorial, the wreath-laying and other ceremonial tasks are led by the president who is also the commander-in-chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
However, Tinubu’s absence automatically delegated the duties to the Vice President, Â Kashim Shettima who represented the President and was the first person to lay wreath during the annual event at the Eagles Square on Wednesday.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima led other dignitaries to commemorate the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja, the country’s capital.
Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives; George Akume, secretary of the government of the federation (SGF); Godswill Akpabio, president of the Senate; and Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN) are among the other officials who were present at the event.
Along with top military and law enforcement officials, other dignitaries include Bello Matawalle, the Secretary of State for Defence; Abubakar Badaru, the Minister of Defence; and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, organised the annual conference, which takes place between January 12 to January 18, in an effort to advance international dialogue on sustainability.
