PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU has rewarded 45 of his close allies with the appointment as the Chief Executive officer and head of the federal government parastatal.
The chairman of All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje and the party’s National Secretary, Senator Bashiru Ajibola including 43 others were duly appointed as the board chairman of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria.
Ajibola who served as party secretary, was appointed the chairman of the National Sugar Development Council.
This was contained in a statement announced on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy).
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed board chairpersons for 42 federal organizations and a secretary to the board of the civil defense, Immigration and Prisons Services”.
“The president has also appointed a new managing director for the Nigerian Railway Corporation and a director-general for the National Board For Technology Incubation (NBTI)”.
He further announced that the former deputy governor of Kebbi State, Suleiman Argungu as the chairman, of Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
“Also, a Senator who represented Rivers South-East, Magnus Abe, was listed as the chairman of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall.
“Tinubu directed the board chairpersons not to interfere with the management of the organizations emphasizing that their positions are non-executive”, his statement reads.
Tinubu Rewards Closed Allies
The Explainer’s checks revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed his closed cronies and party members among 43 appointments announced on Friday.
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the current chairman of the All Progressive Party, was announced as chairman of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria.
Ganduje who has repeatedly faced backlash from his party members and also from receiving kickbacks from contractors during his time as governor of the state, is still rewarded the position of chairman of Federal Airport.
Tinubu and Ganduje are a pair of good friends as Ganduje stood for him through thick and thin, particularly during the 2023 presidential elections in Nigeria.
Also, another figure rewarded is Sen. Surajudeen Bashiru Ajibola with the position of chairman of the National Sugar Development Council. Ajibola who is still serving as National secretary of the ruling party was rewarded with the chairmanship of NSDC.
Ajibola who hails from Osun, had served as Commissioner of Justice and Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District.
A Kebbi State Politician, Suleiman Argungu who is the National organizing Secretary of the All Progressive Congress was appointed as leader of Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
Argungu who fully pledged his loyalty to defend Tinubu, especially during the last presidential election, said that their party doesn’t ensure that two candidates of the same faith can’t run a joint ticket.
He said this amid criticism by Nigerians, also tipping Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi State Governor and Abubakar Malami who served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice under previous administration.
Nasiru Gawuna, a member of the ruling party and also ga ubernatorial candidate of the Kano 2023 election. Gawuna who is an ally of Ganduje lost his election and won in court before the Appeal court dismissed the judgement of the lower court.
Nasiru Gawuna was among the appointees announced on Friday as chairman of the Federal Mortage Bank of Nigeria by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
