Angry protesters on Thursday trooped to the streets of Kaduna state carrying placards with different inscription reading: ” Return the fuel subsidy, we are hungry, hunger and bandity are killing us”.
While also, the protesters in their large number flooded the popular Ahmadu Bello way, with some of them occupying the government house with the chant of ” we want justice and fairness”.
As at the time of this report, the popular Ahmadu Bello Way and other areas within the Central Business District of the Kaduna State capital were empty without the usual vehicular and human traffic.
Our report who was on ground reports that security personnel were stationed in strategic areas as at early as 7:00 am to prevent any form of breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna state police command says over 25,000 security personnel have been deployed to strategic flash points in the state to ensure law and order during Thursday’s “protest against hunger and bad governance”.
Mansir Hassan, the police spokesperson in Kaduna, said in a statement on Wednesday that the security personnel include police operatives, men of the armed forces, and those of other security agencies.
He added that the “massive” security deployment to flashpoints “is to ensure strict compliance with public order”.
However, the office of the Kaduna State Traffic Laws Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA) was vandalised, while part of property was set ablazed.
