The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has repaired 65 percent of vandalised 132kV Ahoada-Yenagoa transmission line towers in Bayelsa state.
In a post on X , TCN said 17 of the transmission towers have been successfully erected, with work progressing on the remaining three.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces that 65% of repairs on the vandalized 132kV Ahoada-Yenagoa transmission line towers have been completed,” TCN said.
“17 towers have been successfully erected, with work progressing on the remaining three.
“TCN will commence stringing of conductors, hoisting of insulators and clamping of hardware shortly.”
The company said that despite the challenging swampy terrain, contractors are working diligently to complete the project ahead of the projected November 6 deadline, ensuring the timely restoration of power to the state.
On August 14, TCN announced that Bayelsa state will face a prolonged power outage following the destruction of 13 transmission towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV double circuit transmission line by vandals.
In a statement, Ndidi Mbah, general manager of public affairs at TCN, said the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV double circuit transmission line is crucial for evacuating power from the Ahoada transmission substation to the Yenagoa substation, which supplies electricity to the entire Bayelsa state.
Mbah said due to the significant damage to the towers and the ongoing repairs on previously vandalised transmission structures, it could take several months for TCN to finish rebuilding and stringing the towers needed to restore power supply to the state.
