In light of recent developments and the consequential Supreme Court verdict on the 26th of October 2023, the Centre for Transparency Advocacy emphasizes the importance of reconciliation and visionary leadership.
The Presidential Election conducted on 25th February 2023 resulted in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) being declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission. This decision faced scrutiny and opposition from various quarters, leading to subsequent legal proceedings. Upholding the tenets of the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022, aggrieved entities sought justice through the Presidential Election Tribunal, culminating in the Supreme Court’s affirmation of President Ahmed Tinubu’s victory.
This electoral outcome prompted widespread discourse and media coverage, leaving citizens with diverse reactions. Yet, the necessity to conclude legal disputes and focus on effective governance remains more critical than ever.
We, therefore, extend an earnest appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the spirit of unity and national cohesion, we urge magnanimity in your court victory. It is essential to embrace fellow political counterparts and concentrate on realizing the promises outlined in the APC’s manifesto, ensuring that the fruits of democracy reach every Nigerian.
Emphasizing the role of unity, the Centre for Transparency Advocacy believes that the Supreme Court’s judgment reinforces our commitment to a resilient democracy, emphasizing that every political entity plays a crucial part in the nation’s tapestry. Our collective mission now revolves around addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, be it economic, security, health, or infrastructural.
Simultaneously, we urge opposition parties to uphold their indispensable role, ensuring that the incumbent administration remains accountable, transparent, and devoted to the nation’s collective well-being. This responsibility, we believe, rests heavily on opposition factions, civil society, and professional bodies.
Furthermore, we encourage all political stakeholders to reflect on the insights and guidance from court rulings related to the recent elections, urging them to refine their internal democratic practices and rigorously pursue excellence across all electoral activities.
The Centre for Transparency Advocacy remains steadfast in championing reforms in the electoral process, all in the interest of fortifying Nigerian democracy.
To our fellow citizens, your patience and active participation are invaluable. We beseech everyone, particularly under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to uphold the tenets of exemplary leadership, responsibility, and unwavering accountability.
