The Jigawa state government is set to provide free dialysis treatment for kidney patients across five health facilities. State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Kainuwa, announced this during a press briefing on the recent resolutions from the state executive council meeting.
“We are establishing dialysis centers in Dutse and Ringim General Hospitals, and installations are in advanced stages at Hadejia, Kazaure, and Gumel General Hospitals,” said Dr. Kainuwa.
This initiative is part of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda aimed at ensuring accessible healthcare for all residents, regardless of their social or economic status.
“Governor Namadi is determined to prevent any resident from dying due to medical bills. He is committed to making healthcare accessible and affordable for all Jigawa citizens,” Dr. Kainuwa emphasized.
In addition to the dialysis centers, the state executive council has approved N1.5 billion for the renovation and upgrading of 32 health facilities across the state. This effort is aimed at ensuring these facilities can provide 24-hour services to meet the growing healthcare demands.
Furthermore, the council has approved the enrollment of 500 underprivileged individuals from each of the 287 political wards into a free health insurance program.
“While the Social Health Insurance primarily covers primary healthcare, beneficiaries are guaranteed free services up to the tertiary level under this scheme,” added Dr. Kainuwa.
To support these initiatives, the state has recently recruited 1,100 health workers, including 200 doctors, pharmacists, and nurses. The renovation program includes facilities that have not seen major upgrades since the 1970s.
