In a heartfelt display of solidarity, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka paid a poignant condolence visit over the weekend to the Aburi residence of former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The purpose of this visit was to express his condolences on the passing of the beloved former Ghanaian First Lady, Theresa Kufuor. Joining Prof. Soyinka on this somber occasion were esteemed individuals: Ivor Agyeman-Dior, a former Special Advisor to President Kufuor, and Dr. Wale Okediran, the Secretary General of the Pan African Writers Association.
Theresa Aba Kufuor, wife of the second President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, peacefully departed this world on October 1, 2023, at the age of 87. Her passing marked the end of a remarkable journey that spanned over 60 years, during which she devoted her life to her husband and her profession as a nurse and midwife.
According to Dr. Okediran, it’s worth noting that Wole Soyinka, a cherished friend of the Kufuor family, had previously spent time in the couple’s Aburi residence while working on his latest book, “CHRONICLES.” This visit underscored the deep bond between the laureate and the Kufuor family.
The delegation on the condolence prayed that as Ghanaians come to terms with the loss of Theresa Aba Kufuor, they will undoubtedly cherish her lasting contributions and legacy, honoring her memory with heartfelt gratitude. They also prayed for the repose of the gentle soul of the departed.
