Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rescind its decision to boycott the upcoming local government elections scheduled for September 21st.
The governor made this appeal during a campaign rally in Goronyo, addressing a large gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters from eight local governments in the Sokoto East Senatorial zone.
According to a statement released by Abubakar Bawa, Press Secretary to the Sokoto State Governor, on Monday,
Governor Aliyu expressed surprise at the PDP’s reluctance to participate, stating, “The leaders of SIEC were appointed by the immediate past PDP administration, and I did not tamper with that structure. I wonder why the PDP is afraid to participate in the polls to be organized by SIEC.”
He assured the opposition that the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) would conduct free, fair, and credible elections under his administration.
“I had a meeting with the Chairman of SIEC, and he assured me of transparent polls; whoever wins will be declared the winner,” Aliyu emphasized.
The governor highlighted his administration’s achievements, including the distribution of free fertilizer and pesticides to farmers, the installation of solar-powered street lights, and the timely payment of workers’ salaries. He urged voters to support APC candidates to ensure continued development in the state.
Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, APC leader in the state, praised Governor Aliyu’s performance, saying, “Mr. Governor, we are very proud of you; you have touched all sectors of development in the state. Please keep up the good work.”

Deputy Governor Idris Mohammad Gobir assured residents of increased efforts to combat banditry in the Sokoto East zone, while Minister of Water and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, commended the administration’s delivery of democratic dividends across the state.
The event culminated in the presentation of party flags to APC candidates for the upcoming local government elections by Senator Wamakko, signaling the party’s readiness for the polls.
