The Senate has made the decision to pardon and recall Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, who was suspended on March 12, 2024.
This recall process was set in motion on Tuesday, initiated by Deputy Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro, who expressed remorse on behalf of the suspended senator. Moro pledged to take full responsibility for Ningi’s actions, acknowledging the seriousness of the suspension.

The conduct of the senator during the period of suspension has been the subject of intense scrutiny and debate within the legislative body.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the unconditional recall of Ningi following a brief plea by some lawmakers. Akpabio praised Ningi’s contributions to the Senate, emphasizing his value as a member of the legislative body. He noted that Ningi’s recall transcends religious and ethnic divides, highlighting the Senate’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity.

Ningi’s recall comes just two weeks before the end of his three-month suspension, scheduled to conclude on June 12, 2024.
Recall on March 12, 2024, the Senate suspended Ningi over allegations of N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 Budget. Ningi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, was suspended for three months after a heated session in the red chamber.
