Rev. David Ugolor, Executive Director of Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), has been elected Co-Chair of the UNCAC Coalition Board, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished anti-corruption advocacy career.
The election was announced on October 11, 2024, and confirmed in a statement on Monday by UNCAC Coalition Board Managing Director Mathias Huter.
Rev. Ugolor will share leadership with Gillian Dell, forming a formidable team.
The new leadership team includes Naomi Roht-Arriaza and Wajdi Balloumi as Vice Chairs, Wana Alamsyah as Treasurer, and Mukhtar Ahmad Ali as Secretary. This diverse group of experts will advance the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption.
With over two decades of anti-corruption experience, Rev. Ugolor brings valuable expertise.
His academic background includes Master’s degrees in Agricultural Economics and the Study of Corruption. Ugolor has presented on corruption, illicit financial flows, and sustainable development in local and international forums.
Ugolor’s influence extends to global asset recovery efforts and civil society engagement with the Open Government Partnership.
He led the implementation of independent civil society monitoring of $322.5 million of recovered Abacha loot, channeling it into conditional cash transfer programs in Nigeria.
Upon accepting his new position, Ugolor expressed gratitude and commitment.
“I am deeply honoured to serve as Co-Chair of the UNCAC Coalition,” he said.
He added, “This appointment reflects civil society’s collective efforts to strengthen our fight against corruption.”
Gillian Dell, Co-Chair, brings extensive experience from Transparency International.
The Explainer learned, the he UNCAC Coalition, established in 2006, has grown into a powerful network of over 350 civil society organizations from more than 100 countries, promoting the UN Convention against Corruption.
With Ugolor and Dell leading, the Coalition will continue its vital work in combating global corruption.
