The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning against fraudulent social media posts circulating false information about the 2022 police recruitment exercise.
In an official press release dated July 9, 2024, the Commission categorically denied issuing any statements regarding training schedules or invitations for shortlisted candidates.
Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations for the PSC, stated, “The Commission wishes to disown multiple social media reports on the 2022 Recruitment exercise, especially on the imaginary scheduled date for training for shortlisted candidates.”
The PSC expressed particular concern over the misuse of Ani’s name in what it described as “fictitious and phantom Press Statements calculated to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians on the status of the recruitment exercise.”
Clarifying its position, the Commission emphasized that it has not released any information about reviewing the list of successful candidates or inviting them to check applications on a newly launched portal. Furthermore, the PSC refuted claims of advising candidates to print updated invitation slips or proceed to Police Training Colleges.
“The Commission has not announced any date for the training programme and the Monday, July 22nd 2024 date, bandied in the social media is just the imagination of the impostors,” Ani declared.
This development comes amid ongoing efforts to streamline and improve the recruitment process for Nigeria’s police force, which has faced challenges in recent years due to high demand for positions and concerns over transparency.
The PSC urged candidates to remain patient and await official statements regarding the recently concluded recruitment exercise.
“The Commission wishes to advise candidates to be patient and await its official statement on the just concluded recruitment exercise,” the statement read.
In a strong message to those spreading misinformation, the Commission warned, “It also warns these unrelenting impostors to stay clear of its activities especially the recruitment exercise and warns that anybody caught undermining the exercise will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
Candidates and members of the public are advised to verify any information about the police recruitment process through the official PSC website and authorized communication channels to avoid falling victim to scams or misinformation.
