Demonstrators participating in the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests briefly stopped Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s convoy on Saturday, urging him to address their concerns directly.
The incident occurred on the third day of the demonstrations, which have been taking place in the Rivers State capital since August 1, 2024. Protesters, brandishing green leaves, lined the streets and vocalized their excitement as the governor’s vehicles approached.
One participant, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “We want our voices to be heard. The governor needs to listen to our grievances and take action.”
After a brief standoff, Governor Fubara’s convoy proceeded, while the demonstrators continued their rally.
The protesters had reconvened at the Pleasure Park in Port Harcourt, carrying placards and reiterating their commitment to maintain their presence until their demands are met.
Security personnel were visibly present throughout the day, ensuring the demonstrations remained orderly. Despite the brief confrontation with the governor’s convoy, Saturday’s protests have been largely peaceful across the city.
