The police have taken over the security of the main palace of the Emir of Kano, displacing local hunters who had been guarding the reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, since his return to the palace.
It would be recalled that the hunters, known locally as ‘Yan Tauri’, were deployed to the palace, following a rumour that federal authorities were planning to forcefully return the deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, to the main palace and sack Sanusi II.
However, on Sunday evening (23rd of June 2024), a team of security agents were sighted, taking over the main emir’s palace, the Gidan Rumfa, where the hunters were playing card games and carrying out other activities.
Though as at the time of filling this report, the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, SP Haruna Kiyawa, was yet to comment on the sudden change in security arrangements at the main palace.
