The Plateau State Police Command has firmly dismissed reports of looting at a rice mill in the Zaria area, labeling a widely circulated video depicting such events as “false.”
In an official statement released Friday, police spokesperson Alabo Alfred addressed the spreading misinformation:
“It has come to the attention of the Plateau State Police Command that some criminally-minded individuals are circulating a video on social media, purporting that a rice mill around Zaria road is being looted by protesters. We wish to categorically state that this video is false, unfounded, and aimed at creating unnecessary panic and unrest within the state.”
The police assertion comes amid ongoing protests in Nigeria against perceived bad governance, marked by the hashtag #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria on social media platforms. Authorities are keen to maintain order and dispel rumors that could potentially inflame tensions.
Alfred’s statement emphasized that no incidents of looting or vandalism have occurred on Zaria road or elsewhere in the state. The Command issued a stern warning to those spreading the false information:
“The command further confirms that there is no incident of looting or vandalisation on Zaria road or in any other part of the state, and therefore, warns all such individuals to desist from circulating such inciting content, or face the full weight of the law when caught.”
State Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Adesina, sought to reassure the public, pledging the force’s commitment to maintaining law and order. The police statement quoted Adesina as saying:, “We work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.”
“Let us all work together to build a peaceful and harmonious community,” the statement urged,
