The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the launch of the Police Veterans Foundation, to support retired officers overcoming post-service challenges.
To be launched in Abuja on March 5th, 2024, the foundation is the brainchild of concerned retired police officers according to a statement by Ikechukwu Ani PSC’s head of press and public relations.
The statement said the foundation “will provide holistic assistance and support to Police Veterans during their transition to civilian life, ensuring their well-being, dignity and seamless integration into the society.”
The statement stated that the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, whose father was a police officer will serve as Chairman of the occasion “while his other Governors – colleagues, Ministers, National Assembly Members, captains of Industries are expected to grace the occasion.”
Former Inspector General of Police Dr. Solomon Arase assured that the Foundation will strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of police veterans and their communities.
Arase said “One of its aims is to seek for resources and provide succour to children of Police Officers, in terms of employment opportunities, skill acquisitions and other things.
“Another is to engage competent and capable retired Officers as valuable resources for training and retraining programmes for both the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission.
The statement also said the Chairman of the Body of retired Inspectors General of Police, Alhaji Aliyu Attah, GCON, will be “leading a strong delegation of retired Inspectors General and several other retired senior Police Officers to the launch.”
