The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Nigeria’s delegation to the Conference of the Parties (COP28) as “over-bloated, wasteful and reckless spending of the nation’s resources”.
In a statement, the party raised concerns regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s delegation of 1,411 individuals to COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, accusing the Presidency of using government funds “to sponsor cronies, mistresses, and irrelevant hangers-on with no relevance to the conference”.
The party added that it was “outraged at the profligacy displayed by the APC administration and its skewed actions and policies that allegedly promote corruption”
The opposition party called on the National Assembly to exercise its constitutional duty under Section 88 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by carrying out an investigation into the matter and imposing appropriate sanctions on any individuals or institutions found guilty of corruption.
PDP also called on President Tinubu to refund any federal government funds “improperly” spent on sponsoring individuals who have no relevance to the conference. They suggested that the funds should be directed toward projects that directly benefit the well-being of Nigerians.
