The Pan African Writers Association ( PAWA) has pledged its support for African Publishers under the auspices of the African Publishers Network (APNET)
This fact was made known during the week by Dr Wale Okediran, PAWA’s Secretary General at the just concluded 2nd African Publishers Conference that took place in Harare, Zimbabwe.
While thanking APNET for inviting him to the Conference, Dr Okediran reiterated the need for Publishers and Writers to work together harmoniously for the progress of the African Book Industry.
As he put it: ‘in the face of dire economic challenges and dwindling support from our traditional partners, it is very imperative for Writers and Publishers to collaborate on a number of Literary projects’.
Some of the areas of collaboration as proposed by the PAWA Scribe include the use of story books to address developmental issues, translations of major literary works into African languages as well as the need to embrace the use of technology in publishing.
The well organized two day event was attended by Publishers and partners including a Representative of the Afrixem Bank, organizers of the 2024 CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa
