PASTOR IDOWU ILUYOMADE, a former senior pastor at the City of David parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has embarked on a fresh spiritual journey with the establishment of his independent ministry, “The Family Fellowship.”
The Explainer gathered that Iluyomade’s new ministry held its inaugural service at the Civic Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, where attendees experienced what the pastor described as “a special time in the Lord’s presence.” Promoting the event on his Instagram handle, Iluyomade announced: “The Family Fellowship invites you specially. Join us tomorrow at the Civic Centre for a special time in the Lord’s presence. Promises to be a great experience.”
In a viral video from the service, the cleric was seen enthusiastically celebrating with members, underscoring the lively atmosphere of his new ministry. This development follows his suspension from RCCG in 2024, a decision linked to controversies surrounding his leadership of the Trinity Tower project and a birthday celebration held shortly after the tragic passing of Herbert Wigwe, former Managing Director of Access Bank and a prominent church member.
The Explainer gathered that while the RCCG leadership did not publicly disclose the reasons for Iluyomade’s suspension, the cleric’s actions during and after the incident sparked speculation within the church community.
Further revelations suggest that Iluyomade hosted a Christmas concert under the banner of his new ministry last December at Eko Hotel and Suites, attended by several notable personalities. A source close to RCCG, speaking on condition of anonymity, commented on Iluyomade’s departure from the denomination: “There is a strong belief that Pastor Iluyomade received the blessings of Pastor Enoch Adeboye before starting his ministry. He was spotted during one of RCCG’s Holy Communion services late last year, possibly to secure Pastor Adeboye’s approval.”

However, when asked if Iluyomade officially resigned from RCCG, the source added: “It remains unclear whether he tendered a formal resignation. He attended the September Holy Ghost service but appeared distant, suggesting he might have been dissatisfied with the church leadership.”
The Explainer learned that Iluyomade’s move has generated mixed reactions among RCCG members and the wider Christian community. While some see it as a bold step towards personal expression of faith, others question the circumstances surrounding his departure from the RCCG.
