Osun State Unveils Commuter Buses to Offset Fuel Subsidy Removal
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Osun State has taken a significant step in mitigating the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy by unveiling a fleet of commuter buses that will serve civil servants, students, and residents along selected routes. The initiative aims to provide affordable transportation options and ensure the welfare of the state’s inhabitants.

During the official unveiling ceremony held in Osogbo on Monday, Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, expressed the government’s commitment to prioritize the welfare of the residents. The buses will operate during the morning and afternoon shifts, from Monday to Friday, with morning services running from 6:45 am to 9 am and afternoon services from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Governor Adeleke applauded the resilience and dedication of civil servants in the face of challenging economic conditions. He assured them that the administration would continually implement programs and policies aimed at bringing smiles to the faces of the state’s populace.

Commissioner for Transportation Sesan Oyedele, in his opening address, assured the residents of more buses in the near future. He also highlighted the worker-friendly nature of the Adeleke government. Passengers will be required to pay a modest fare for each trip to support the operational and maintenance costs of the buses.

The unveiled buses will operate on specific routes within Osogbo. The first route includes Dada Estate, Capital, Okefia, Olaiya, and terminates at Abere (Secretariat). The second bus travels from Stadium Roundabout through Ayetoro, Old Garage, Olaiya, and ends at Abere (Secretariat). Passengers on the third bus can board at Oja Oba, Isale-Osun, Odi Olowo, Olaiya, and alight at Abere (Secretariat). The fourth bus route starts at Owode Ede, goes through Abere, Ogo Oluwa, Olaiya, and terminates at Old Garage. Finally, the fifth bus will operate from Okinni, LAMECO, Dele, Yes Sir, East Bye Pass, and conclude its journey at Abere (Secretariat).

The introduction of these commuter buses is a commendable move by the Osun State government, providing convenient and affordable transportation options for residents while addressing the challenges resulting from the fuel subsidy removal. The initiative is poised to ease the burden on commuters and improve their overall well-being.
