Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has asserted his position as the rightful occupant of the office, despite ongoing legal controversies surrounding his appointment.
During a solidarity visit from leaders of three prominent transport unions in Edo State on Thursday, Omobayo emphasized his commitment to his role and his support for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
“I remain the authentic number two citizen of the State and still perform my official duties as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Omobayo stated.
He added that the current legal challenges have not deterred him from his responsibilities, saying, “I am not in any way distracted by the ongoing litigations relating to the Office of the Deputy Governor.”
The Deputy Governor expressed his dedication to supporting Governor Obaseki’s vision for Edo State’s economic prosperity and transformation.
He also took the opportunity to thank the visiting unions – the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and Edo State Drivers Welfare Scheme – for their continued support since he assumed office.

The union leaders, in turn, reaffirmed their backing for both Omobayo and Governor Obaseki.
Comrade Monday Orhue, Chairman of RTEAN, and Chief Odion Olaye of NURTW, explained that their visit was intended to demonstrate solidarity and pass a vote of confidence on Omobayo as the legitimate Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Chief Olaye expressed optimism about the current administration, stating, “The Obaseki-led administration would end well and finish strong.”
