The Nigerian Army has released Clement Ikolo Oghenerukvwe, the traditional ruler of Ewu kingdom. His release follows a period of intense scrutiny over the killings of 17 military officers in Okuama, Delta State, an incident that has sent ripples through the nation. Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, presided over a ceremony at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja, where he handed over the monarch to Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central.

Gen. Nwachukwu said: “The Army has conducted a thorough review of all the information at our disposal.
“While we have not conclusively established the traditional ruler’s culpability, we also cannot definitively clear anyone of involvement at this juncture.”
The decision to release Ikolo was influenced by the interventions of distinguished figures and the fact that he turned himself in for questioning.
“His voluntary action demonstrated a commitment to transparency and a respect for the rule of law,” he added. As Ikolo returns to his community, the Army’s quest for answers persists. Renewed calls have been made for other suspects to come forward.
