The West African Examination Council (WAEC) branch controller for Ogun State, Ayobami Suberu, has refuted claims that the state government owes the examination body.
Suberu addressed journalists on Tuesday to clarify the situation surrounding withheld examination results for some public school students in the state.
“Let me say categorically that Ogun State is not owing the West African Examination Council a dime,” Suberu stated emphatically.
The controller explained that the delay in releasing some results was due to a technical issue, not financial indebtedness. He described recent media reports suggesting otherwise as “malicious” and “mischievous.”
“The truth of the matter is that those results were not released due to a technical hitch, and we are relentlessly working on it for it to be released on Tuesday,” Suberu clarified.
He expressed disappointment with the unbalanced reporting, noting, “How can a reporter just go ahead and put up a story without getting the side of WAEC? That is not ethical.”
Suberu assured that WAEC is actively addressing the technical problem. “We have activated communication with the Head of the Test Administration Division, and we are getting positive responses regarding the issue,” he said.
