The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, describing the current economic hardship in the country as “transient.”
In an interview on Channels TV, Morka challenged the opposition parties “to offer constructive solutions rather than mere criticisms”. He also expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s capacity to address the country’s soaring inflation, unemployment, and poverty.
Morka said; “The president made it very clear that his economic policies would produce some difficulties for our people and clearly those difficulties are here with us. We know that this is not easy for our people, but the government itself is not resting.”
The APC leader urged the opposition parties to suggest solutions instead of “condemning” the policies of the ruling party.
“Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, for example, campaigned for this office of the president. Some of the key economic policies that this administration is implementing currently were also touted by them to be at the core of their own economic agenda.
“So what has happened? It’s not enough to just condemn. Assuming they have that silver bullet that they say this government is not deploying, they should point it out,” he said.
Morka’s interview came amid rising protests in some parts of the country over the economic hardship and the government’s response.
The House of Representatives had summoned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Yemi Cardoso, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun over the economic challenges.
However, the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had accused the APC of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.
