The Nigerian Army recently dismissed two soldiers, Corporal Innocent Joseph and Lance Corporal Jacob Gani, over their alleged involvement in the disappearance of armoured cables at the Dangote Refinery.
Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu confirmed the dismissal in a statement. He said: “Their dismissal is a demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s zero-tolerance for misconduct and criminality within its ranks.”
He further added that “the two soldiers would be handed over to relevant authorities for further prosecution.”

The Explainer learnt that the soldiers were charged for “Failure to Perform Military Duties” and “Other Civil Offences”, both punishable under the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, the Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. They were summarily tried, and given the opportunity to present their cases and defend themselves. They were found guilty of the charges levelled against them in accordance with military laws.
The statement the Army worked with the management of the company to investigate the activities of the two soldiers. It said they were found to have abandoned their duty post and were in unauthorized possession of the missing cables.

The Army reiterated its zero-tolerance for misconduct and criminality within its ranks.
