The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has strongly denied circulating fake news claiming that passwords for result upload have been withdrawn from Local Government Area (LGA) Supervisors for use by Assistant Presiding Officers 1 (APO1s) in Imo State. The commission labeled these reports as unfounded and clarified the correct procedure for result upload.
Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, released a statement to address the issue and set the record straight. He categorically stated that the claims attributed to anonymous “concerned workers” were entirely untrue and should be disregarded.
Oyekanmi clarified the roles and responsibilities of the personnel involved in the result upload process, emphasizing that Presiding Officers (POs), not APO1s, are designated to carry out this task on the IReV platform. It was reiterated that all passwords required for result upload had been securely released to the designated officials according to the Commission’s established procedures.
In light of this false information, INEC warned the public to expect further attempts to spread misinformation before, during, and after the elections. The commission urged vigilance and advised people to dismiss these unfounded insinuations, emphasizing the importance of relying on accurate information from credible sources.
Safety and security during the electoral process are paramount to INEC, and the commission’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability remains steadfast. It continues to implement measures to ensure successful and credible elections, upholding the principles of democracy.
INEC called upon the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution when encountering unverified reports. By supporting and promoting accurate information, citizens can actively contribute to the integrity of the electoral process and strengthen trust in the democratic system.
As the electoral activities unfold in Imo State, the commission remains dedicated to maintaining an impartial and credible process that reflects the will of the people. INEC’s focus is on conducting free, fair, and transparent elections that advance the democratic aspirations of the nation.
