The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress, has initiated an indefinite strike at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
This action follows the management’s “failure to address critical welfare issues affecting its members.”
In a communique issued on October 4, 2024, SSASCGOC outlined the reasons for the strike, citing unresolved issues related to promotions, salaries, and general staff welfare.
The communique stated, “The move was necessary after several meetings with the management over critical issues failed to yield positive results.”
The workers’ grievances include the review of the 2024 promotion examination results, the appointment of directors for various departments, the reform of promotion examination content, and the timely disclosure of performance scores. Other demands include the resolution of tied promotion examination scores, the establishment of qualification and conversion criteria for promotions, the creation of a psychology officer cadre, and the centralization of training programs.
Additionally, the communique highlighted the need for the payment of pending burial expenses, life insurance, repatriation allowances, and salary arrears for employees hired in 2022.
The statement, signed by the Secretary of the TUC, Comrade (Dr.) Ejor Michael, instructed workers to commence the strike on Monday, October 7, 2024.

“This is to notify all staff that, following the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued to Management in the Communique of September 20, 2024, and the dithering of Management regarding the issues raised therein, another Congress of NAFDAC Staff was convened on Friday, 4th October 2024,” the statement read.
The communique further directed all staff to withdraw their services and remove personal belongings from their offices, emphasizing that no one would be allowed entry into any NAFDAC premises during the strike.
“SSASCGOC State and Zonal Coordinators are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance with this directive. Dear Comrades, your cooperation is greatly treasured to ensure the effectiveness of this indefinite nationwide strike action. We will not relent until all issues are satisfactorily addressed.”
