Minister of Women Affairs 0 disrupted an event in Abuja on Thursday, citing unauthorized use of the ministry’s name. The organizer was reportedly taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged impersonation.
Kennedy-Ohanenye stated, “There is an impersonating thing going on here. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs did not plan this. The lady, I have arrested her. Right now, she is with the Department of State Service (DSS).”
The Explainer learned, the event, titled “Unveiling the Power of Women and Food Security,” was allegedly organized by Mela-Chiyoma Pat Limited without proper approval.
The minister claimed that despite a presidential directive to cancel the event, the organizer proceeded with preparations.
“After we wrote that we were cancelling, the president approved that we should cancel until further notice; she still went ahead to print this thing,” Kennedy-Ohanenye explained.
The minister emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “This is impersonation. As far as this thing was given out there, that makes it a fraud.”
Kennedy-Ohanenye insisted on the importance of proper protocol, saying, “She should have organised herself, used her name to make an invitation, and used her name to do this and not to use the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.”
The minister affirmed her commitment to addressing the issue, regardless of media coverage.
“I am saying this. Let the media cover it; I don’t care. You don’t do this. You don’t take the ministry for granted,” she declared.
